Terran First Order overview:

The Terran First Order, or simply the Order, is a military junta which operated in unknown space in the Milky Way Galaxy during the era of the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance. The First Order is ruled over by a Supreme Leader from their mobile headquarters in lieu of a traditional planetary capital that is more susceptible to conquest. A militaristic dictatorship that wishes to remove disorder from existence, the Order has a fanatical devotion to totalitarian notions of order and a disdain for democracy. To this degree, it has become locked in a cold war with both the Alliance and the resurgent Terran Empire, whom they view as illegitimate government.
After the death of Terran Emperor Sheev Palpatine and the rise of Spock, the weakened Terran Empire fell with the rise of the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance and broke into various Imperial remnants that the Alliance slowly picked off one by one. Spearheaded by Counselor to the Empire Saruman Dooku, some of the Imperial Starfleet (mainly the Imperial 29th Fleet) retreated into unknown space. After a harrowing journey through poorly-mapped star systems, retreating Imperials met secret reinforcements, where Captain Enric Pryde intended to build a stronger and purer Empire. In the years that followed, Pryde’s remnant forces formed the Terran First Order, and began to plot a return to power, seeking to reclaim lost Imperial legacy.
Since meddling from the “Prime” Universe had led to their predicament, Pryde, as one of the Terran First Order’s earliest leaders, had no qualms with infiltrating the alternate reality to steal designs and upgrade the First Order’s military into a technologically superior force, adopting an operating mantra of “All is Fair in Love and War.” Through Project Phoenix, the First Order conscripted children – comprised of both First Order personnel’s own children as well as those abducted from outlying star systems- to train as next generation soldiers. Military Assault Command Operations was reformed as the First Order’s Stormtrooper Corps and became home to the Order’s most elite soldiers. The First Order also undertook a major offensive to seize several hermetic kingdoms and pre-warp worlds and their resources in unknown space.
Modern history of the Terran Empire:
2063
Terran scientist Zefram Cochrane becomes the first Terran to achieve warp travel. At the same time as his flight, Cochrane is detected by a Vulcan scout ship, the T'Plana-Hath. Following Cochrane's flight, the T'Plana-Hath lands on Terra. Cochrane correctly assess the invasion risk that the Vulcans pose, and shoots the first Vulcan to step foot on Terran soil in the face with a shotgun. After killing the first officer, the Terrans board the T'Plana-Hath and take everything of value.2155
After leading a mutiny, Commander Jonathan Archer leads the ISS Enterprise NX-01 on a mission to Tholian space to recover a purported "future" starship. This starship turns out to be the USS Defiant (NCC-1764) from the "Prime" Universe. The Tholians had created an interphasic rift by detonating a tri-cobalt warhead inside the gravity well of a dead star and sent a false distress call to lure in a starship for study. Wanting to deny the Tholians a possible advantage, Archer leads a mutiny against Captain Maximilian Forrest, who dismisses the Tholians' claims as little more than smoke and mirrors. Following the destruction of the ISS Enterprise, Archer uses the Defiant against a rebellion that, up until that point, Starfleet had been on the losing side of. Archer plans to use the Defiant to usurp the throne of the Empire for himself, but he is betrayed and assassinated by Hoshi Sato, who takes over the ship and proceeds to declare herself Empress, beginning a dynasty that would last for generations.
2207
Empress Hoshi Sato uses the advanced technology aboard the USS Defiant to boost Starfleet's offensive capabilities, extensively refitting the remaining NX-Class ships whose captains pledged loyalty to her with reverse-engineered technology from the Defiant. With a fleet of powerful warships behind her, the Empire invades Qo'noS and Romulus, the capitals of the Klingon and Romulan Star Empires and the two biggest threats to Starfleet's power.
Empress Sato begins experimenting with cloning technology to create clones of herself to extend her rule after she dies. She begins experiments in secret laboratories across Terra to produce clones of herself. Sato's research later becomes a subject of great interest to future Terran Emperor Sheev Palpatine, who would wisely continue Sato's research in regions of the Alpha and Beta quadrants that he carefully guided the Empire away from so that his contingency may not be discovered by future leaders of the Empire.
2220
By 2220, the Empire had successfully subjugated Qo'noS, Romulus, and Tholia, among countless other worlds. The Empire by this time was sixty-five years into the Sato Dynasty.
2255
At the height of the Empire's power, the ISS Charon is launched, effectively serving as the Imperial palace and the first known iteration of the mobile headquarters concept which would later be adopted by the Terran First Order. Empress Philippa Georgiou is quick to make the Charon the Imperial Flagship.Following the Charon's launch, however, Empress Georgiou was betrayed by her Prime Minister, Gabriel Lorca- who launched a coup attempt against her. However, Lorca's plot failed when Paul Stamets sold him out. Empress Georgiou sent her adopted daughter, Michael Burnham, to stop the coup. In the ensuing scuffle, Burnham's shuttle is destroyed by Lorca's loyalists, and Burnham is presumed killed in the incident.
Following Burnham's presumed death, Lorca took the ISS Buran to Priors World to recruit more people to his cause. While there, however, the Buran was intercepted by the Charon. The battle that ensued took place during a freak ion storm, and as Lorca was beaming back to join the battle, the ion storm caused a transporter malfunction, sending Lorca to the "Prime" Universe. Believed to have escaped, Empress Georgiou obliterates the Buran in retaliation.
2256
One year later, however, Gabriel Lorca returned from the "Prime" Universe with the USS Discovery and intent to continue his coup. With the help of the Michael Burnham native to the "Prime" Universe, Lorca successfully infiltrated the ISS Charon, freeing his tortured followers and nearly succeeding until he was foiled by "Prime" Burnham and Empress Georgiou. Following Lorca's death, Empress Georgiou is abducted by "Prime" Burnham and the crew of the USS Discovery, which proceeds to scuttle the ISS Charon.
Following the abduction of Empress Georgiou, Captain Sheev Palpatine of the ISS Steadfast (NCC-1732) takes advantage of the power vacuum that arises in the Empress' absence and declares a new order, installing himself as Terran Emperor. Following Palpatine's rise to power, the fate of the ISS Charon as well as the "Prime" Universe incursion by the USS Discovery is classified.
2267
Eleven years into Palpatine's reign, another "Prime" Universe incursion would occur aboard the ISS Enterprise (NCC-1701). This time, Captain James Kirk, Lieutenant Commander Montgomery Scott, Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, and Doctor Leonard McCoy would be "switched" with their "counterparts" from the "Prime" Universe due to an unusual anomaly caused by an ion storm. The four Starfleet officers of the other universe sabotage multiple systems aboard the Enterprise in an attempt to return home, but their plans are foiled by Commander Spock. However, he allows the four to return to their universe. But before they return, the alternate Kirk speaks to Commander Spock about peace and its superiority to bloodshed. Commander Spock says that he will "consider it." Kirk also reveals to Spock about a device called the Tantalus Field, a device installed in Captain Kirk's quarters that could make his enemies "disappear," making him "invincible."
2270
After realizing that "Prime" Kirk had a point, and that the Empire's current expansionist policy was unsustainable, Spock assassinates Captain Kirk and uses the Tantalus Field to depose Emperor Palpatine and become leader of the Empire. With logic and his new weapon, Spock begins to bring in more peaceful reforms to Imperial policy. He believes that the Terran Empire was far too hostile, and that the reforms are the only way to stop the bloodshed. It would be a mistake that would cost the Empire dearly.
Spock's reforms are met by resistance by hardliners in the Empire, including the Imperial 29th Fleet. They feign cooperation, but secretly begin to funnel their resources to regions that they had secretly charted under Palpatine, believing the contingency that the late Emperor had established to occur in the event of his death would soon be enacted.
2271
A slave revolt occurs on board the ISS Enterprise (NCC-1701), at the time under the command of Captain Valeris. A Kelpien slave assassinates Valeris and takes command of the Enterprise, embarking on a mission to liberate other enslaved species with the end goal of reestablishing contact with the "Prime" Universe to seek asylum with the United Federation of Planets.
In retaliation, the ISS Yorktown (NCC-1717) undergoing a major refit is recommissioned as the ISS Enterprise (NCC-1701-A) under the command of Captain William Decker, with orders to hunt down his ship's predecessor. Early the next year, Captain Decker would succeed at his mission, driving the heavily-damaged ISS Enterprise and the renegade Kelpien into a wormhole following an intense battle, where the ship was reported destroyed.2272
Emperor Spock is assassinated by Palpatine loyalists who do not agree with his "peaceful reforms." his shuttle is destroyed over Vulcan by the ISS Hermes (NCC-2212) - an Excelsior class warship of the "Great Experiment" enacted by Palpatine to upgrade Starfleet's arsenal. However, by this time, most of Hermes' sister ships delivered to fleets other than the 29th had either been mothballed or had most of their armaments removed, and much of the Imperial Army had also been downsized, leaving the Empire vulnerable.
2273
The surviving Klingon Great Houses in hiding arm themselves. They form an alliance with their historic enemies, the Cardassian Union, and together, they begin an invasion of the Terran Empire. A bloody war between the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance and the Terran Empire erupts across the stars. This conflict will be known in both Imperial and First Order history as the Great Downfall War.2275
The 29th Fleet, commanded by Captain Saruman Dooku of the ISS Steadfast (NCC-2297), makes its final stand over Memory Alpha- the Great Imperial Library. While Dooku intends to carry out the final phase of Palpatine's contingency and ensure the 29th Fleet's complete destruction at Memory Alpha, he is betrayed and killed by his first officer, Commander Enric Pryde. In his dying breaths, Dooku urges Pryde to take the Steadfast and follow the course programmed into the ship's computer, which will take him to rendezvous with Emperor Palpatine's flagship, the Constitution-class ISS Steadfast. Before following Dooku's instructions, Pryde uses the remaining time the 29th Fleet has left in control of Memory Alpha to cover his tracks, ordering Imperial records to be altered to reflect a swift and total defeat before the 29th Fleet officially abandons Memory Alpha.
2279
After a four year journey comprised of many short warp jumps, during which time Pryde discovered that the Steadfast had secretly been transmitting coordinates to other Imperial fleets, the Excelsior-class ISS Steadfast rendezvous with its Constitution-class predecessor. Upon regrouping with the Constitution-class Steadfast, Pryde beams aboard, seeing an opportunity to rebuild the Empire; one that was stronger and purer, and not given to the backstabbing and incest that had defined the Terran Empire.2282
Back in known space, the Terran Empire loses control of the Romulan Star Empire. The Romulans temporarily join the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance to defeat the Terran Empire. The ISS Enterprise (NCC-1701-A) is destroyed by Romulan ships while protecting the Beta Antares Ship Yards. Unfortunately, the ship yards are also destroyed. Following the destruction of Beta Antares, the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance and Romulan Star Empire conduct a joint military operation to push deeper into Imperial space. The Empire loses several key planets in 2282, including Betazed, Tholia, Alpha Centauri, and Tellar Prime. The Imperial Starfleet pulls back to protect the core worlds of Terra, Vulcan, and Andoria.
2284
The Terran Empire and Klingon-Cardassian Alliance agree to a ceasefire. However, the ceasefire only lasts three months before it is violated by the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance. However, the ceasefire has given the Imperial Starfleet time to rearm slightly.
2285
The ISS Enterprise (NCC-1701-B) is launched under the command of Captain John Harriman. Together with the ISS Reliant (NCC-1864) under the command of Captain Khan Noonien Singh, the Enterprise-B spearheads a counteroffensive against the Klingon-Cardassian alliance. The Imperial Starfleet retakes Betazed at great cost. Accurate figures are hard to come by, but it is estimated that nearly 25,000 lives were lost in the operation.2286
The Klingon-Cardassian alliance launches another major offensive against the Terran Empire. The ISS Reliant is destroyed when the Alliance detonates a reverse-engineered Genesis Device. Following the destruction of the Reliant, the Alliance swiftly retakes Betazed, destroying the Enterprise-B in the process.
2290
After eleven years in hiding, and joined by other surviving ships of the Imperial Starfleet following the coordinates transmitted by the Excelsior-class ISS Steadfast, the Imperial 29th Fleet officially reorganizes as the Terran First Order, with Captain Pryde becoming the Order's first Supreme Leader. By First Order estimates at the time of its founding, the Terran Empire has only five years left before complete collapse.2294
With the Imperial Starfleet now on the brink of collapse, the Romulan Star Empire pulls out of the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance and goes into isolation, signing a non-aggression pact with its former allies before turning its matters internally.
Meanwhile the Terran Empire finally loses its grip on Vulcan and Andoria and pulls back to the Terra system. Another ceasefire appears likely until an Alliance invasion of the Terra system dashes all hopes for it. The Alliance easily overwhelms Terra's remaining defenses, destroying the Utopia Planitia Ship Yards in a single day. The invasion of Terra begins, with fighting erupting in all major cities across the planet.
2295
The Terran Empire falls and surrenders to the Klingon-Cardassian alliance. The victorious Klingons and Cardassians divide up Terran space. Terrans are designated to be worth half a Cardassian, and one third a Klingon. Billions of Terrans are forced into slavery. Terra is occupied, and the Imperial Starfleet's assets are either sold off, dismantled, or destroyed. The lucky Terran vessels to be sold are disarmed and turned into civilian ships. At this point, the largest concentration of Terran ships anywhere in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants belongs to the nascent Terran First Order.
The Klingon-Cardassian Alliance continues to extend across the Alpha and Beta Quadrants while the Romulan Star Empire is reborn, though remaining isolationist, following its release from Terran rule.
2340
The Klingon-Cardassian Alliance constructs the space station Terok Nor in orbit of Bajor, a formerly Terran-occupied world that has risen to become a prominent member of the Alliance. Several Terrans slaves are transported to the Bajor sector to work in the mines on Bajor or in the ore-processing center on the station. Under Alliance administration, thousands of Terrans lose their lives over the next three decades.Terok Nor soon becomes an important military base and trade center for Alliance operations in the Bajor sector.
2350
Sixty years since its founding, the Terran First Order realizes that a reconquest of Alliance territory is not possible on the backs of its aging Constitution, Miranda, and Excelsior class ships. Having finally perfected the multidimensional transporter device, the First Order begins conducting missions into the "Prime" Universe to steal starship schematics for the purpose of upgrading the First Order fleet. One of the first designs that First Order agents return with is for the Federation's "Ambassador class."
2365
Terran First Order agents return with schematics for a class of Federation starship called the "Galaxy Class." While impressive in schematic form, the First Order dismisses the design as 'needlessly wasteful', but retains the stolen designs should further developments arise that would make the class more practical to construct and field.2370
A "Prime" Universe incursion is recorded at Terok Nor. Kira Nerys and Julian Bashir from the "Prime" Universe accidentally cross over while traveling through the Bajoran wormhole. While searching for a way home, the two inspire a Terran Uprising on Terok Nor. Before they leave, they permit the rebels to download data from their runabout's computer.2371
Word reaches the Terran First Order of the Terran Rebellion. First Order leadership dismisses the rebellion as a poorly-equipped, poorly-organized guerilla force that will inevitably be quelled by the Alliance.
2372
The Terran Rebellion manages to capture Terok Nor and begins constructing the ISS Defiant utilizing schematics stolen from the "Prime" Universe by Miles "Smiley" O'Brien. However, they cannot get it to function properly, and so, Professor Jennifer Sisko of the rebellion lures her late husband's "Prime counterpart" to Terok Nor to assist in finishing the Defiant. However, the clock is ticking...Regent Worf, leader of the Alliance, launches a mission to retake Terok Nor. However, faulty intelligence means the existence of the ISS Defiant is omitted, and in the ensuing battle, the Defiant, under the command of Captain Sisko, defeats the Alliance fleet sent to retake Terok Nor.
Word of the Regent's defeat reaches the Terran First Order. Leadership is forced to reevaluate their stance on the Rebellion, and decides that they can no longer be underestimated. Meanwhile, the spreading news of the Terran Rebellion's first major victory inspires enslaved Terrans on other worlds to rise up against their Klingon and Cardassian oppressors.
2373
While planning for an assault on Earth, word reaches the Terran First Order leadership about a Terran uprising on Terra. Battles have erupted in major cities across the planet, from Chicago to New Delhi. In light of this development, the First Order is forced to cancel its planned assault and return to observation.
2374
The Terran uprising scores a major victory on Terra, successfully driving Alliance forces out of Dubai. Having lost their last centralized command post, the Alliance decides to officially cut their losses on Terra, and begin withdrawing troops from the planet. Though attacks from Terrans continue throughout the withdrawal. A Terran suicide bomber in Toronto kills 13 Alliance personnel and injures at least 24 more.
2375
The last Alliance troops belonging to a garrison in Los Angeles withdraw from Terra to great celebration. While Terrans across the planet celebrate, many more seize on the hard-won momentum, capturing former Terran ships that the Alliance had sold off and re-arming them. Plundering of abandoned alliance documents reveal the hidden locations of reserve fleets where the Alliance had placed Terran warships aside to await final disposal. 2376
With attacks from Terrans in the Terra system not letting up, the Alliance deems continuing to hold the Terra system as a wasteful drain on resources, and withdraws entirely from the Terra system. The Terrans waste no time in reestablishing the Terran Empire. The Utopia Planitia Ship Yards, partially repaired to serve the Alliance, are immediately pressed back into Terran service to reactivate seized warships that had been mothballed and refit other warships that had been hastily re-armed.However, the Terrans make several changes to the way things are run: Instead of the position of Emperor holding absolute power, governance of the Empire was delegated to a "Terran High Council." With the Emperor serving as something of a glorified figurehead. Of course, several decisions still required the Emperor's final approval, but the change was to prevent mistakes from figures such as Spock, Sato, and even Palpatine. Another old rule that was eliminated was assassination as a valid form of career advancement. Assassination was criminalized except under specific circumstances.
The buildings in San Francisco that once belonged to the Imperial Starfleet, and had previously housed the Alliance's San Francisco garrison, are restored, and the Imperial Starfleet is founded with a new charter, though much is kept from the original Imperial Starfleet Charter. A stark contrast to the First Order's Charter.
2378
Vulcan, Andoria, and Tellar Prime all join the Terran Empire as the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance's grip on the Alpha and Beta Quadrants loosens. Though they are welcomed with open arms by the Terran Empire, for the Terran First Order observing from the shadows, all hopes of a return to a more "High Terran" order with Terrans back at the top of the food chain are dashed.
2380
Terran First Order agents bring back from the "Prime" Universe schematics for an upgraded version of the Federation's "Galaxy Class", tentatively titled the "Galaxy X-Class." The new design features several prominent alterations from the original schematics captured in 2365, including the addition of a third engine nacelle, greatly increasing the vessel's speed, and most attractively to the Order, a massive ventral phaser cannon under the saucer section. Coupled with First Order advances in automation to reduce the crew size, the Order was finally able to justify constructing the class. The lead ship of the new class, the ISS Xyston (NCC-52180), would be commissioned in two years time. Thus, the class' full designation would become the "Galaxy-Xyston" class.2383
